Have you ever heard of the Aviation Cocktail before? This is an old-fashioned classic, dating back to the beginning of the 20th Century. It's a mix of gin with maraschino, lemon juice and creme de Violette. This drink is my favorite because it's so photogenic, with its violet color and flavor.

The Aviation Cocktail is a mix of gin and other spirits. (I'm looking at you, Tom Collins and Negroni) It has a lot to offer. It has a gin heart and is bursting with vibrant, exciting flavors. The maraschino, a fruity, slightly sweet liqueur with a hint of sweetness, lemon juice, and creme de violette will give you a delicate floral flavor.

You can add the Bees Knees Cocktail to your list of "to-dos" if you enjoy gin with lemon juice. The drink is incredibly simple to make. Just add simple syrup to gin and lime juice, and you're done!

  • 1/2 oz. maraschino liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz. creme de violette
  • maraschino cherry (for garnish)

  • Cocktail shaker - for mixing the ingredients and chilling the cocktail
  • A jigger to measure the maraschino, fresh lemon juice and creme de Violette
  • A strainer - to strain a cocktail mix into a glass
  • A Citrus Juicer - for freshly squeezed juice
  • A coupe glass or martini Glass_ to serve the cocktail
  • Cocktail pick - for garnishing the maraschino cherries

Fill the cocktail shaker up with ice. Add the maraschino, gin and fresh lemon juice to the shaker.

Shake vigorously the mixture for 15-20 seconds to ensure that the ingredients have been mixed and are chilled.

Strain

Pour the cocktail through a strainer into a martini or coupe glass that has been chilled to remove all of the ice.

Garnish

You can garnish your Aviation by adding a maraschino or cocktail cherry.
